The School of Interdisciplinary Studies (SIS) brings together a diverse group of students from various disciplines who are united by a shared commitment to sustainability, innovation, and evidence-based problem solving. Learners come from different academic backgrounds and professional sectors within and beyond MSU-IIT, creating a rich environment for peer learning, collaboration, and interdisciplinary dialogue.
Students are actively engaged in coursework, research, and extension activities that address real-world issues such as environmental management, sustainable development, data-driven policy, and community resilience. Their achievements include participation in funded research projects, contribution to environmental impact assessments and community-based initiatives, and involvement in student organizations that promote sustainability advocacy and interdisciplinary engagement.
SIS supports students through mentoring, flexible learning pathways, and access to cross-college electives that allow them to “steer their own inspiring story” by tailoring studies to their interests and career goals. At the same time, ongoing plans aim to broaden access through more scholarships, inclusive policies, and improved academic and career guidance so that a wider range of learners can thrive in the SIS community.
