Overview

The School of Interdisciplinary Studies (SIS) research program at MSU-IIT emphasizes cutting-edge interdisciplinary inquiry targeting local and global challenges like climate change, disaster risk, biodiversity, peacebuilding, and sustainable resource management, aiming to produce innovative solutions that advance knowledge and societal progress. Faculty and student efforts align with institutional, regional (DENR), and national (DOST) priorities, supported by external funding from partners like NORMECA, SEARCA, and Conservation International, plus access to ICT tools, statistical software, and university research guidelines. Outputs include student theses, dissertations, and practical applications such as Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), though challenges persist: no dedicated funding, absent Research and Development Committee, limited student involvement in reviews, and few publications or presentations. BOR Resolution No. 57, S. 2024 endorses solutions like stakeholder-driven priority setting, income allocation for research, committee formation, mandatory student presentations, and co-authored refereed journal publications to strengthen SIS as a research leader.
